The Society has been active in publication since the late 18th century. Its first volumes of the transactions of the Society were published under the title Archaeologia Scotica, between 1792 and 1890. In 1851, the Society began the publication of its proceedings (the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland), which quickly established itself as the primary journal dealing with archaeology, architectural history and the study of historical artefacts of Scotland in its wider British and European context. It remains the premier journal in this area in Scotland.
Erin Osborne-Martin is our full-time Managing Editor and Sales Manager, whose primary concern is the editing of the Proceedings, but who also takes a general overview of the Society's other publications, particularly the Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports (SAIR). Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland
In 2002 the Society began an ambitious project to make the entire contents of Archaeologia Scotica, the Proceedings, the published General Indexes of the Proceedings, and out-of-print volumes in the book series available in digital form.
This has involved the scanning of thousands of pages, the conversion of the resultant images into an i
ndustry standard digital format (PDF), indexing and checking.
Each article or chapter is a separate file and these are available to download free of charge from the server of the Archaeology Data Service.

Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports
Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports (ISSN 1473-3803) were established in 2000 by a consortium of Historic Scotland, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Council for British Archaeology. Its purpose is to publish information more suited to an electronic format than a traditional print journal.
SAIR is a fully-refereed publication, edited to the same standard as the Proceedings and the Society's books. Reports on archaeological science and data-rich projects are handled easily within the SAIR format. In the future, SAIR will continue to work with consortium members to explore new technologies and ensure that it is ‘fit for purpose'. In this way, SAIR will continue to contribute to the dissemination of information on Scotland's rich archaeological heritage.
