Murray Grigor FSA Scot was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List
We have only just been advised that Murray Grigor FSA Scot was awarded the OBE in the the New Year honours list 2012! He was cited as Film-Maker and awarded for services to Architecture and to the Film Industry. He is internationally renowned for his films about modern architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, and Frank Gehry, but his documentaries on the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander 'Greek' Thomson have played an important role in reminding the Scottish public of its world-class, original architectural heritage. His films on the architecture of Robert Adam and Sir John Soane illustrate his historical interests. His film for Channel 4, Scotch Myths, was paralleled by an Edinburgh International Festival exhibition was powered by his resentment at a Scotland that portrays itself by kitsch stereotypes of fatigued romanticism. He has been elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, in 2010. His latest film is concerned with the history of St Andrews University, of which he is a graduate.
