8th March 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Alison Cameron of Cameron Archaeology will present this lecture at the Regent Building Lecture Theatre hosted by the Aberdeen and North East Section of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Three of the four Aberdeen medieval friaries have now been subjected to archaeological excavation, the Carmelite, Franciscan and Domincan. This talk will pull together what we now know about these important religious institutions. There are human remains from all sites and this includes the recent 25 individuals excavated at Robert Gordon’s on the site of the medieval Blackfriars. The human bones from this site are being analysed at the moment and this talk will reveal the very latest results of this analytical work which is being carried out by Paul Duffy at Brandanii Archaeology and will incorporate stable isotope research being led by Kate Britton, University of Aberdeen. The Carmelite site produced substantial building remains as well as many small finds which have added to our knowledge of friary life in medieval Aberdeen.
