fofof-cover-finalThe Society is pleased to announce that our next book, The Fortification of the Firth of Forth, will publish in March 2019.

This new publication, by Gordon J Barclay and Ron Morris, describes the story of the great Forth Fortress from 1880-1977, when the final traditional defensive capabilities were abandoned.

Meticulously researched and including over 200 images, the authors draw together archival and illustrative sources, fieldwork and oral histories to present a complete history of the Forth’s defences in the 20th century.

Gordon J Barclay was Principal Inspector and Head of Policy at Historic Scotland. His previous publications include If Hitler Comes: Preparing for Invasion: Scotland 1940 (2013).

Ron Morris has been involved in the exploration and conservation of the Forth’s defence and natural heritage for many years. His previous publications include Defending St Kilda (2013).

This book will publish in March 2019. To pre-order your copy, please visit the Society’s online shop where you will receive an introductory discount of £5 off the RRP:  www.socantscot.org/shop.
