Encourage Excellence

Every year the Society receives high quality grant applications it cannot afford to fund. Please donate now so that we can award more grants to encourage excellence. Your help will support new research into Scotland’s past.

St Columba

Peter Yeoman has overseen the reinterpretation of the magnificent Iona Abbey. His credo is that authenticity, drawn from research, is what makes history compelling. A Research Grant allowed him to visit St Gallen Monastery, Switzerland to see the earliest known image of St Columba and talk to the curators.

“This level of research helps deepen our understanding and make the interpretation work we do more authentic and compelling. The grant from the Society not only makes such trips possible, it is in effect a stamp of recognition of the research’s value.” Peter Yeoman FSA Scot, Grant Recipient.
