Text Giving – a new way to donate to the Society

6th July 2021 | Categories: Uncategorised

The Society has registered with Donr, a Text Giving service provider, so that we can now offer text giving to anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation to the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Text Giving is a quick and easy way of giving a donation to the Society. All you need is your mobile phone – no credit cards or bank transfers are involved. Your donation will then be added on to your mobile phone bill.

If you would like to make a monetary donation using text giving, thank you, and here is how:

Text SOCANTSCOT10 to 70450 to donate £10.

If you prefer to make a smaller or larger donation (up to £20) then text SOCANTSCOT followed by the donation amount to 70450.

(N.B. Donation amounts made by Text Giving must be a whole number amount between £1 and £20.)

Texts cost your chosen donation amount plus one standard rate SMS message and you’ll be opting in to hear more about our work and fundraising via telephone and SMS. If you’d like to make a £10 donation via text giving but do not wish to receive marketing communications then text SOCANTSCOTNOINFO 10 to 70450 instead.

If you would like more information please read the Society’s Data Protection Policy here.

Our Ask

Subscriptions for membership of the Society are due on 1st July each year. We are very aware of the financial strain some Fellows may be experiencing as a result of the continued upheaval caused by the pandemic. Therefore, Society Trustees have agreed that any Fellow suffering financial hardship due to COVID-19 can receive a 25% discount on their 2021/2022 subscription. At the same time we also invite Fellows, or anyone else who is able, to consider making a donation to help ensure the Society has the resources to continue its charitable work.

New to Text Giving? What is Text Giving and how does it work?

Text Giving refers to donating to an organisation such as a charity using a mobile device via text messaging (aka SMS).

Mobile phone users can make donations by texting a keyword to a specific SMS short code. Keywords are determined by the charity, and usually pertain to the charity’s cause or purpose.

Donation amounts are predetermined, commonly at £10, and need to be a whole number. There is a maximum donation limit of £20 per text donation.

After donating, supporters receive a confirmation text message and the donation amount is added to their monthly mobile phone bill. Donations can take up to 90 days to be processed.

Supporters have the option to add Gift Aid to their donation if they wish.

What is useful to know about the company, Donr?

The company was founded in 2016 on the belief that charities should have equal access to the same digital innovation that drives the commercial sector.

Donr jumped into the text giving market place in 2018 to offer charities a dedicated Text Giving platform aimed at giving charities’ supporters a quick and convenient way to give both one-off amounts and regular giving through their mobile phone number. By November 2020 some 4,000 charities are using Donr for Text Giving, and in December 2020 Donr is the fundraising partner for John Lewis’ “Give A Little Love” Christmas Campaign.

Donr’s platform has been built from the ground up to support charities’ fundraising efforts, and as such Donr have no setup, monthly or keyword fees – Donr instead charges charities only 5% fee per donation.

Donr provides helpful answers to supporters’ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). These are found here,
