The Society began publishing its annual journal in 1851. Today, the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal of new research on all aspects of Scotland’s past.
The Society is now inviting submissions of articles for volume 154.
- Submissions are welcome from both Fellows and non-Fellows of the Society, including students, early-career researchers, independent scholars and established academics.
- Articles may be on any subject surrounding research that furthers the understanding of Scotland’s heritage.
- Papers should be between 3,000 to 10,000 words long, with a maximum of 12 images.
- All articles submitted to the Proceedings will undergo double-blind peer review by at least two referees prior to publication.
- The Society supports Open Access publications and Gold Open Access options are available for contributors to the Proceedings with funding in place.
The Society will be awarding two prizes for articles published in volume 154:
RBK Stevenson Award – A cash award of £100 is offered annually in recognition of a PSAS paper that best reflects the high standards in scholarship of former President RBK Stevenson.
Murray Prize for History – A prestigious silver medal and a cash prize of £200 are awarded in recognition of original research published by the Society on the history of Scotland in the medieval to Early Modern periods (c AD 500 to AD 1700) and set within a British and/or European context.
