Free Online Scottish History and Archaeology Resources
The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is a heritage charity with global membership which provides expertise, support and resources to enhance and promote the understanding and enjoyment of Scotland’s past.
Thanks to the support of our Fellows, we are able to make many of these resources available online for free for everyone.
PUBLICATIONS
Archaeologia Scotica
The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland published the first five volumes of its transactions under the title Archaeologia Scotica between 1792 and 1890. These volumes are freely available online. This journal was later succeeded by the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (PSAS)
PSAS is a peer-reviewed annual journal of Scottish history and archaeology in wider context. Most articles in the two more recent volumes are available exclusively to Fellows of the Society but all of them become freely available after two years, with online editions stretching back to 1851.
Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports (SAIR)
SAIR is a peer-reviewed open access journal of excavation reports and large-scale surveys conducted in Scotland. New issues are published continuously throughout the year.
Open Access E-Books
Alongside journals, the Society publishes award-winning books. Our titles are available in print and can be purchased in our online shop (with a 20% discount available to Fellows), however we also offer a range of open access e-books that are free to read.
