DATA PROTECTION

The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force in the UK on 25 May 2018.  This requires the Society to demonstrate it has an appropriate legal basis for holding and processing any personal data.  To comply with the new GDPR legislative requirements the Society operates under section 6(1)(f) where our capture and use of personal data is considered necessary for the purposes of legitimate interests pursued by the controller (the Society) or a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests, rights or freedoms of the data subject.  We have updated our Privacy Policy on our website to be clear about what we use personal data for and how we might capture and process it, and a version of this is available from the Society offices on request.

In short, this will include holding and processing personal data for the purposes of servicing you as a Fellow of the Society and continuing the range of activity that we currently conduct as an independent heritage charity in Scotland with a global membership, including any projects that we may run.  We will contact you in advance to ensure we have consent for uses that we consider might be tangential to this aim.  If you wish us to remove your data please don’t hesitate to contact the office and we will advise you of the procedure, ramifications and what we are able to do legally.

Help us to do more

Help us: champion research; stimulate discussion; enhance public understanding; and share our extraordinary heritage. Donate directly to the Society now.
