Under 26 and Student Fellow

Under 26 or Student Fellows of the Society should apply to this grants stream

Grants are available to support Under 26 and Student Fellows of the Society (under 26 years old or a current full-time matriculated student).  

What the Grant Funds

These grants can help with the costs of: 

  • archaeological or historical research into Scotland’s past 
  • presenting research on Scottish themes at conferences within Britain or abroad 
  • visiting museums, collections, or materials of archaeological science at home or abroad  
  • preparation of additional data and the presentation of material for publication by the Society

The annual subscription fee for Under 26 or Student Fellows is £25 and academic credentials and publishing experience are not necessary to apply.  

Amount

£2,000 maximum for research activities or  up to £400 can be awarded to help with the costs of presenting research at a conference or event.   

Deadlines 

There are two annual closing dates for grant funding applications: 30 April and 30 November each year. 

Decisions

For applications received by the 30th of November, applicants will be notified of a decision by the end of the following January. For applications submitted by the 30th of April, decisions will be communicated by the end of June. 

Grants are made on the recommendation of the Grants and Awards Committee and the approval of the Society’s Council

Grant applications should be made using our grant application form and be sent to Dr Helen Spencer FSAScot, Head of Research, by email to grants@socantscot.org.
