Heritage Hub Champions

Become one of 1,000 Heritage Hub Champions and help make a big difference through a small monthly gift.

For the cost of a few cups of coffee a month, you can help write the next chapter of Scotland’s story.

The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is Scotland’s oldest heritage charity and learned society. Founded in 1780 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1783, we have spent nearly 250 years shaping how Scotland’s history is researched, preserved and shared.

Today, the Society is embarking on a transformative new chapter: the creation of Scotland’s first national heritage hub. Our vision is to establish a much-needed national, independent gateway for heritage, connecting the wider public and the heritage sector in one visible and accessible place. The heritage hub will unlock more effective collaboration, research, learning, and knowledge exchange. It will also be a destination where people can connect with Scotland’s heritage and discover pathways to historic sites linked to their own Scottish roots.

Located immediately adjacent to the National Museum of Scotland in central Edinburgh, the B-listed property sits within one of the city’s most important cultural corridors, through which an estimated 10 million people pass each year. The building also holds special architectural and historic significance, standing on ground that has witnessed more than five centuries of Scottish history. However, the Society has a time-limited opportunity to purchase the building before it goes to commercial market.

For our American friends, supporting the heritage hub is an opportunity to become part of Scotland’s enduring legacy. Your support will help create an anchor for the nation’s history, safeguarding it for future generations and ensuring it remains open and accessible to everyone who feels a connection to Scotland, wherever they call home.

Every donor will be recognised on the hub’s digital supporters’ wall, creating a lasting record of their generosity for generations to come.

If 1,000 people become Heritage Hub Champions and donate £20 a month (or approximately $27 USD, depending on exchange rates), together we can raise £240,000 annually to support the heritage hub campaign and help sustain the hub’s work for years to come. For UK supporters, Gift Aid can boost your donation by 25% at no extra cost.

As a Heritage Hub Champion, your support will be recognised in this historic campaign. You will be:

  • Named in a special commemorative volume of the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, marking the Society’s 250th anniversary
  • Included on the Digital Honour Roll within the heritage hub
  • Included on the online Honour Page on the Society’s website

We currently can accept regular gifts online from UK and USA. For supporters in other countries, please speak to our Head of Fundraising, Deborah Roe FSAScot, by calling 0131 247 4133 or emailing deborah@socantscot.org
