Thanks to a generous bequest to the Society from Audrey Henshall OBE HonFSAScot, we are delighted to announce that applications are now open for the next round of the Audrey Henshall Legacy Fund.

In 2024, £50,000 was awarded to Archaeology Scotland for their Scotland’s Earliest Megalithic Monuments project. The Society is now offering a second grant of up to £10,000 for the successful applicant to develop and undertake a significant research project which supports research or fieldwork on pre-Roman antiquities in Scotland.

Honorary Fellow Audrey Henshall was a British archaeologist known for her pioneering work on Scottish chambered cairns, a type of Neolithic burial monument. Henshall left the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland a bequest of £100,000 when she passed away in 2021 to fund projects that would develop and undertake impactful research on pre-Roman archaeology in Scotland.

The deadline for applications is 11:59pm (UK time) on 30 November 2026.
