Audrey Henshall Legacy Fund
To develop and undertake impactful research on pre-Roman archaeology in Scotland.
Thanks to a generous bequest to the Society from Audrey Hensall OBE HonFSAScot, we are delighted to offer a new grant opportunity..
What the Grant Funds
Reflecting Audrey Henshall’s wishes, and her research interests, the legacy stipulates that the funds “…shall be used for research or fieldwork on pre-Roman antiquities in Scotland and not for general excavation work, and that the said Society will publish the results of such research or field work.” For the avoidance of doubt, we have determined that this includes survey and desk-based work as well as excavation of pre-Roman antiquities in Scotland.
Following an initial call for applications the first Audrey Henshall Legacy Award of £50,000 was made in November 2024 to Archaeology Scotland for a project entitled ‘Scotland’s Earliest Megalith Monuments’.
Amount
Smaller grants of up to £10,000 will be available through the Audrey Henshall Legacy Fund in due course.
