Scottish Archaeological Research Framework Project Manager

The Society is seeking an exceptional candidate for the post of ScARF Project Manager. Responsible for every aspect of the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework project, from sourcing contributors and content to final publication and marketing, ensuring consistency and high academic standards throughout.  The main aims of the role are to manage and keep updated the existing Scottish Archaeological Research Framework (ScARF) project period panel reports, to create, manage and publish new regional research frameworks, and to manage the ScARF Museums Project.  The post will also help develop and deliver the Society’s role within Aim 2 of Scotland’s Archaeology Strategy.

Position Title: ScARF Project Manager
Reporting to: Director (Dr Simon Gilmour)
Starting salary: £28,356 to £30,090 per annum pro rata depending on experience (roughly equating to £17,013 to £18,054), plus a 10% pension contribution, flexible working, childcare voucher scheme available.
Hours: Part time, 22 hours per week. This position is dependent on external project funding and is initially offered to the end of March 2019 with the likelihood of extension.
Holidays: 38 days per year pro rata (roughly equating to 23 days)

Key duties of the role:

• Communicate with all interested parties currently undertaking archaeological research on the Scotland’s past to obtain the fullest evidence possible for the framework
• Manage the budget and timelines for both ScARF and ScARF Museums Project, ensuring required outputs are produced on time and within budget
• Report regularly on progress
• Organise and host seminars/workshops/conferences and meetings as required to promote and communicate the aims and results of the project
• External liaison with other organisations undertaking research frameworks, such as Historic England
• Creating and maintaining the ScARF website
• Promote the ScARF project including social media and regular e-newsletters

Essential skills:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant professional experience
• Excellent organisational ability
• Understanding of Scotland’s Archaeology Strategy
• Attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work well independently and within a team
• Excellent computer skills

Desirable skills:

• Experience with Drupal content management system
• Knowledge of Scottish archaeology
• Experience of project management
• Experience in line managing staff and/or volunteers

Responsible to:

• The post-holder will report to the Director as line manager
• The post-holder will report on progress to, and receive guidance from, the project Advisory Group
• The post-holder will liaise with the Finance Manager with regard to budgetary and financial matters

Responsible for:

• The post-holder will line manage the ScARF Museums Project Officer.

Person specification:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and interest in archaeological research into Scotland’s past, as well as an interest in the strategic role of research frameworks. They will be able to manage and prioritise a varied workload, with an eye for detail. The post requires strong computer skills, as well as excellent communication skills.
